We can be more than one thing, even if they seem worlds apart from each other. Expressing who we are - in all honesty - is the only path to happiness.

1. Bio

Biology researcher, model and artist. Specialising in Genetics and Neurobiology, she is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Biology, whilst working at the Max Planck Institute for research on the metabolism, as part of a team specialised in obesity-associated inflammation and its contribution to colorectal cancer. To help support her studies, she also works as a model and cat sitter! In her free time, she dedicates herself predominately to her other great passion – painting.

2. The power of a dream

My biggest dream was to become a great scientist; I would find the cure for cancer and win the Nobel Prize! Without any doubt, that dream has always guided me, it is what I still study, work and specialise for today. I like the idea of being able to do something that benefits society, researching diseases that represent a major problem. The dream is there and this gives you the strength to do everything necessary to bring it closer to reality, each and every day. Over the years, I then discovered another part of my soul, a more introspective aspect attracted by art, and I learned that even dreams – much like love – are capable of multiplying without taking anything away from each other. Dreams generate life, an energy – this is their greatest power.

3. My journey into real beauty

We have infinite opportunities that move us towards authentic beauty. In my case, I want to share two which have changed me, both profoundly and forever. The first arises from my struggles with depression: when I finally stopped trying to hide it and decided to open up, I found phenomenal support, love, exchange and mutual enrichment. There and then, I understood how much beauty and power there is in being vulnerable and saying it honestly. The other big lesson for me personally was understanding that we can be more than one thing, even if they seem to be completely at odds with each other. I stopped feeling so undecided because I have so many passions and visions, and learned to embrace them all as an essential part of me. Going from a sense of inadequacy to that of true abundance is an incredible journey.

4. What I learned and won’t let go

There is no need to hide our fragilities, being honest with ourselves is the only path to happiness. We have the right to be versatile and faithful to our being, we must not react to an idea externally imposed upon us. As a woman living in the privileged West, you might think that my difficulties are relative. Yet, we still find ourselves afraid to go home alone at night and, before going out, have to question if our dress is too short! In addition to the daily discrimination that we all live with. I dream that all women can live safely, in every part of the world, that they can choose their own direction in life, with the freedom to follow their every dream without being pressured, forced or influenced by the patriarchy.
